For me, it’s like this: I pick up a guitar and, after the very first chord – 5 to 10 seconds – I know whether it’s a yes or a no. That very instinctive ‘spontaneous feeling’ has rarely let me down. Yesterday, I held my Moews for the first time. Quite apart from the fact that I nearly fell over the first time I opened the case, it only took a brief moment before I knew: a double yes! What a monster of a guitar. The neck and the frets are a revelation!

I’d asked Moews for a very radical design, and – purely subjectively speaking – it’s paid off completely. There are probably quite a few guitarists who’d turn their noses up at this, but a Strat with just a neck pickup and a volume control is virtually unheard of.

When I play Strats, though, I play almost exclusively in this mode: neck pickup, volume and tone cranked right up. So why not reduce my guitar to the way I play it 98 per cent of the time anyway? Of course, this particular setup naturally places higher demands on the pickup. This one, too, is handcrafted by Moews, and it’s simply amazing. The clean and crunch tones are out of this world, and even when distorted, it sounds really fat. Jimi would approve…. Verdict: an ultra-cool guitar – visually, in terms of playability, and sonically.
